Something for Myself

After taking a few years off from heavy jewelry making, I am drifting back into my world and home.

I own so many wonderful pieces of jewelry from friends and fellow metalsmiths, but I've been ignoring the strange truth that I've never made anything for myself.  Unbelievable!!  Recently I stumbled upon the ear cuff's fashion comeback, and instantly knew this would be my piece.

Long overdue but not too late; simplified, designed, and customized for me

I'll post more in-progress photos soon!

72 Hours, 86 Brooches

I said goodbye to Raleigh on Sunday morning with a masterfully packed Jeep and warm air blowing through the windows.  After a day and a half of driving I was welcomed back to Chicago with a big box of materials, a bag of toys, and relief when they actually fit in my car....

Collaboraction, a contemporary theater of experience-making and arts collaboration, asked me to provide favors for the guests of an After Dark event at The Art Institute.  The featured exhibit in the Modern Wing was Building: Inside Studio Gang Architects.

My guidelines:
Use dried materials and toys.
Make at least 75 brooches.
You have approximately 3 days.

Game on.
